ACTIVITY LOG MAINTENANCE/REPORTS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ACTIVITY LOG RECORDS
1 If the BASIC ACTIVITY LOG option is selected, LOG ON and LOG OFF records
will be generated to track microcomputer usage for activities A thru V.
These records will be stored in the DOS BOSS directory file named DBX-L002
and formatted as follows:
LOG ON RECORD
MSMM-DD-YYYYHH:MM:SSIDENTIFICATION
M = Main Menu Activity Code
S = Sub Menu Activity Code
MM-DD-YYYY = Date (Month-Day-Year)
HH:MM:SS = Time (Hour:Minute:Second)
IDENTIFICATION = Optional Identification
LOG OFF RECORD
**MM-DD-YYYYHH:MM:SS
** = Log Off Code/Filler
2 The ACTIVITY LOG IDENTIFICATION option may be selected to track account
numbers, project numbers, user names, etc. Identification data may be
entered by using the ACTIVITY IDENTIFICATION screen which will be
displayed for all activities except UTILITIES and DISK OPERATING SYSTEM.
Identification of activities may be optional or required depending on
selected options.
3 The above BASIC ACTIVITY LOG may be EXPANDED to include:
(1) Other Activity (Non Menu)
(2) Total System Activity (Non Menu and DOS BOSS)
4 An additional activity log file named DBX-L001 is included in the DOS
BOSS directory to track record status. After a LOG ON record has been
generated, a flag equal to 1 is stored in this file. Upon return to DOS
BOSS from a system restart or a menu activity, this flag is checked. If
this flag is equal to 1, a LOG OFF record will be generated and a flag
equal to 0 stored in this file. This flag will be displayed in the bottom
left corner of menu screens.
NEVER TURN MICROCOMPUTER POWER OFF WHEN THE ABOVE FLAG IS EQUAL TO 1.
IF LOG ON AND LOG OFF DATES ARE NOT THE SAME, BOTH DATES MUST FALL WITHIN
THE REPORT OR DELETION PERIOD OR INCOMPLETE PROCESSING WILL RESULT.
(A) Return to DOS BOSS after all menu activities. Perform a system
restart if necessary.
(B) IF TOTAL SYSTEM ACTIVITY IS BEING LOGGED, THE FOLLOWING LOG OFF
PROCEDURE MUST BE PERFORMED.

5 To preserve audit trail integrity, activity log records may not be
modified. Records may be viewed, however, by using the TYPE - FILE
command. Refer to page 10-7 of this manual. Viewing records may be
useful during system setup.
ACTIVITY LOG RECORD ERRORS
1 Record errors will result from failure to follow the above procedure.
2 Activity log reports should be printed frequently so that meaningful
corrections can be completed if necessary. Corrected reports and any
backup data should be retained. Old activity records may be deleted after
printed reports have been corrected.
3 Typical business practice would be to print activity log reports weekly
and transfer the corrected results to an accounting journal.
